Young Park is a pompous, recently divorced, 38-year-old Korean-American speech writer for the Taipei City Government. Young grew up in the metropolitan D.C. area where he became jaded at a very young age by the "bubbas on the Hill" and till this day pontificates about the ill consequences of the 1892 hard rock mining law. He is a strong advocate of traditional technology (which explains why he still uses a manual typewriter) and has never owned a television set in his life. At 5'11", 183 lbs., Young enjoys going to the gym and comparing his muscles with all the skinny guys there and is frequently seen at the nearby coffee shop writing nasty letters to the editor of the Taiwan Post, Taiwan's popular English language daily. Sometimes, his letters even get published. Young eats 10 cans of tuna a day and spends much of his office hours reading the Bombay Star and flirting with anything that walks near him.

Audrey Tang is a 30-year-old assistant financial controller at the VBCT and is originally from New Haven, Connecticut. Although she demonstrates ambition in her current profession, her secret desire is to one day become a world-renowned motivational speaker. Her slight and diminutive stature belies her generally acerbic personality, her imposing presence frightening off all but the most self-assured of men. All business and brutally direct, Audrey finds perverse pleasure in debunking people's carefully constructed illusions. Nevertheless, she chooses her moments carefully so as not to make inefficient use of her time. Her interests include going to the gym, ragging on Larry King's glasses, drinking good coffee and sifting through the wreckage of marketing disasters. She idolizes Biz Asia's Lorraine Han and is most likely to be found in online chat rooms impersonating a Large, African-American Man.

Lance Bailey came to Taiwan to study Chinese during his senior year at California State University, Northridge, but decided to stay after discovering local Taiwanese women. He currently works as a free-lance model and television commercial extra but considers himself a misunderstood "ideas man". Lance spends a lot of time trying to think of things to talk about with his girlfriend-of-the-month but eventually has no choice but to move on when his list of topics runs dry. Lance's schedule is usually filled with Ladies Night at "Hugs Disco" on Wednesdays, Ladies Night at "Crooked Nookie" on Thursdays, and "38" on Fridays, all popular hangouts where local women and foreign men go to find one another. He sometimes parties at "Oh-Gee" as well, but accordingly to him, the women there aren't as friendly.

Victoria Ng is a highly-opinionated and flirtatious 27-year-old (just a few months younger than Lance). A former classmate of Audrey's back in the U.S., Victoria arrived in Taiwan through the YMCA Born-Again-Christians Program. She now works as an assistant art director at VBCT but feels her position is far below her station or calling. To her, Taipei represents little more than an interesting block on her immaculate and impressively laid out resume, which includes, among other things, a stint as corporate spokesperson for Shale Oil Company. Destined to be a soccer mom, Victoria exudes a magnetic albeit ephemeral charm that thinly veils a ticking homemade explosive. Her personal interests include watching Steven Chow movies, mopping her already squeaky clean floors, and eating at Taipei's most expensive restaurants. Victoria is most often seen on roadsides arguing with taxi drivers who regularly eject her from their vehicles.

Ram Patel is a 29-year-old computer technician who works for Jo Ming, Ltd, the technical consulting firm that services all the building tenants of the VBCT. The son of one of India's most famous pop stars, Ram was considered one of the most eligible bachelors in his country and moved to Taipei to escape the myriads of obsessed women who were chasing him there. Ram is incapable of seeing evil in those around him and takes no issue with Young, Audrey, or Victoria, who don't always see things eye-to-eye. He dreams of one day becoming the Robin Hood of Asia and is often seen shoplifting hotel umbrellas to give to Victoria whenever she forgets her own. In general, Ram prefers to do his own thing, appreciating the private life he maintains in Taiwan, and spends most of his free time shopping around for the best deals on fake computer peripherals and clipping Ann Landers advice columns from the Taiwan Post.

Lily Lee is a mousy, 28-year-old local Taiwanese woman who works as the executive assistant of the Secretary General of the VBCT. She learned her English from watching McGyver and the Wuman on the Fourth Channel, and finds herself drawn to foreigners in Taiwan - especially to Young Park, although she finds him fat. Lily met Lance at "38" last year who, after realizing that she worked in the same building complex, invited her to join the lunch group. She spends her free time shopping at Taipei's trendy department stores and is most often seen hiking up Yang-Ming Mountain in her favorite 3-inch platform shoes.
