Photo Guidelines

These instructions are for the photographers on each team.

The ORIENTED Photo Albums serve as a passive and yet critical marketing tool, as first-time visitors to the ORIENTED website often peruse our photos to get a sense of who we are.

  • Great photos can help to draw new people to our events.

  • Bad photos (or not enough photos) can turn people away.

  • No photos at all makes it appear as though nothing is going on in your city. This results in lost opportunity to attract new members.

Digital Camera Settings

Photo files must be saved in JPEG format and digital cameras should be set to 640 x 480 (or ratio of).

Photos of larger resolutions will not load, and photos of different sizes will automatically resize to the system ratio and will look warped. The Photo Album system will also not accomodate to vertical shots due to the way that the Slideshows are formatted, nor will it accept GIF files.

Media Coverage

Due to increasing media coverage, we are constantly looking for clear shots of people smiling and in professional attire, preferably of differing backgrounds (so mix of Asian/non-Asian, men/women) to highlight our international flair.

We are especially looking for such photos of our organizing teams to use in our member newsletters and marketing materials, so if you take some great shots, please send them in.

Subject Matter

  • Take 25-40 photos per event.

  • Angled, creative shots are better than stiff standing, posed ones which are boring.

  • Pictures of people who are not in professional attire will be deleted from the website without notice.

  • 2-3 shots of the front entrance and inside the venue, and 3-5 aerial views like this one below, are recommended:

Legal Responsibility

Always ask event attendees for their permission to take their photos and inform them that the photos will appear on the website.

Most people want their photos taken, but if they don't, do not pressure them in any way to comply. We honor all requests to remove photos from the website, immediately and without hesitation.
