Quynh Chow
Former Organizer, Shanghai

Born in Saigon in the 1970s, Quynh had an exciting start as a child. As her country fell to Communism, her parents put her and two of her seven siblings on a small fishing boat to escape Vietnam toward the end of 1977. En route to an unknown destination, the boat captain landed in Singapore only to find himself and the entire boat in a spartan but very clean prison. This experience as a jailbird at such a tender young age of seven had left a deep impression on Quynh. She swore to never land in jail again.

Quynh's journey eventually led her to the United States where she lived with her relatives in Charleston, South Carolina. Quynh got her bachelor degree in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina and years later would find herself on the left coast completing an MBA from the other USC, the University of Southern California. Not content to be just a Southern belle and after several years of working for a large, national bank, Quynh left the South for Taipei where her effort to show off her Mandarin got her kicked out of a taxi during rush hour.

Aside from insulting cab drivers with her knowledge of the city of Taipei, Quynh has work experience in banking and finance. She is currently living in Shanghai with her husband and attending Chinese classes at Jiaotong University International School. The taxi drivers in Shanghai find the fact that Quynh carries a map of the city amusing. She has even helped them to find better routes during rush hour, for which they were thankful.

Quynh has known about ORIENTED since its inception in 1999 and has watched it flourish over the years to where it is today. She enjoys attending the events in Shanghai where the mix of people are always interesting and fun and is happy to give directions to anyone who needs 'em.
