Virginia Zheng
Head Organizer, Shanghai

Wikipedia defines a third culture kid (TCK, 3CK) as "someone who, as a child, has spent a significant period of time in one or more culture(s) other than his or her own, thus integrating elements of those cultures and their own birth culture, into a third culture."

That, in a nutshell, is Virginia Zheng.

As a young girl, Virginia lived in Indonesia, Singapore, China and the UK and is fluent in Indonesian, English, and Mandarin while currently learning French.

Virginia has been in China since 1997 and has spent time in Shanghai, Qingdao, and Xiamen as both a student and working professional. She is currently the Program Manager at Next Step Connections where she helps young adults gain work experience in their field of interest through internships.

A graduate of Sport Management from Loughborough University in the UK, Virginia plays several sports and also manages the Melody Women's Basketball Club in Shanghai in which female players in town meet up a few times a week to play. She believes that doing sports can help improve the quality of life of a person.

A keen and curious traveler and reader, Virginia is interested in foods, music, arts and cultures. She likes to meet people from all around the world with various backgrounds and to learn about their different views and values towards life.

Virginia first heard about ORIENTED in 2007 before she left Shanghai for the UK. She enjoys organizing events and meeting new people and found that networking is the perfect way to do it. Having spent most of her childhood in Shanghai, she looks forward to leading the ORIENTED Happy Hours and talking to people about this great city!
